What Hotel Is in Home Alone 2?

Home Alone 2 was filmed in the Plaza Hotel in New York. It is a 21 story french styled condominium styled building. Designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, a famous America architect who was born in the 1800’s. His architectural designs are recognized as he was one of the first to master a new building form known as the skyscraper. Although Hardenbergh was the original designer and architect for the hotel when it was built in 1907, since then there have been several other designers who are responsible for additions and remodeling of the original design. The designers include:

  • Warren and Wetmore- Architectural Firm
  • Schultze & Weaver-Architectural Firm
  • Annabelle Selldorf
  • Atlantic Terra Cotta

Fortunately, over the years, the hotel has sought to maintain its original design with not much adjustments to the exterior. Even when there was an addition in 1921, it maintained the original design of the creator, Hardenbergh. An important historical architecture in the city of New York, it has received a number of historical designations which include:

  • 1969-City landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission
  • 1978-National Register of Historic Places
  • 1986-National Historic Landmark
  • 2005-New York City landmark designation for Interior Spaces which includes the following areas in the hotel:
    • Restaurant spaces
